GARDNERVILLE IS WARM, CHARMING, AND INVITING

In 1879 Lawrence Gilman of Genoa purchased a 7-acre tract of land from a homesteader named, John M. Gardner. This particular, undeveloped, tract of land ran right along the East Fork of the Carson River. Gilman decided to move the famed Kent House from Genoa to this acreage and name it in honor of Gardner, and hence, Gardnerville was born.

Inviting and designed for strolling, Gardnerville’s town streets are adorned with shady trees, old-fashioned street lamps, and in the warmer months, carefully tended flowers. Residents and visitors alike find it hard to resist the town’s century-old brick buildings, charming home-style gift shops (their windows adorned with: pottery, quilts and glass art), the old style saloons, and the popular Basque and various cultural restaurants. Also, Gardnerville has quite a reputation for businesses known for their unique antiques and collectibles.

The town enjoys its fair share of events too, like the annual outdoor movies hosted during the summer months at Heritage Park, and the regular farmers’ markets at Lampe Park. One very popular regional event is Carson Valley Days, a 4-day long event including the Valley Cruisers Car Clubs annual classic car show, a parade, games, a rodeo and great food available pretty much everywhere.

For the history lover, the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center has exhibits on the area’s agricultural history. And for the outdoorsman, Gardnerville is just minutes from endless recreation, the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe invites guests to swim and sunbathe, boat, ski, hike, bike and camp when it’s warm, the winter months, of course, offers some of the country’s best ski resorts. To the east lies easy access to hiking and equestrian trails, plus great spots for ATV riders. Just 20 minutes south on Hwy 395 is another popular place for: boating, fishing, picnicking and camping, Topaz Lake.

Surround yourself with peaceful green fields and mountain views.
