The Carson Valley rests serenely at the base of the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, and is the host to several wonderful small country towns in the county of Douglas; Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa. Recreation is abundant as it is within minutes of world-class skiing and boarding, hiking, biking, golf, rafting, horseback riding, water sports, wildlife watching, fishing and more.

Carson Valley was named after the 19th-century trailblazer Kit Carson. The Carson River, also named in honor of the famed scout, flows through the center of the valley providing lush habitat for all types of wildlife. Genoa claims the title of the state’s first permanent settlement. The town centers of Minden and Gardnerville have been rejuvenated to show off their late 19th and early 20th century architecture. And Topaz Lake, a short 21 miles south, boasts: boating, fishing, and lodging.

Its 51,000 residents enjoy many events throughout the year ranging from car shows and parades to Oktoberfest and the annual Harvest Festival. There are motocross races, bike rides, fun runs, historical reenactments, golf tournaments, chili cook-offs, and much more. A favorite in the area is Carson Valley Days, celebrating the birthday of the Valley with a four-day carnival with no end of food and fun, a concert series, a parade, an art show and more. The residents here have a strong sense of civic pride and participation in community events.

Carson Valley features a quality of life that attracts great interest from throughout the United States. Whether a family looking for a cozy small town atmosphere, retirees thinking about settling in a beautiful and peaceful environment, or a business scouting locations where employees can enjoy a good lifestyle with quality schools and parks, Carson Valley has become one of Northern Nevada’s most popular relocation destinations.

The traditions of cleanliness, low crime rates, four seasons, and quality schools make residents proud to say they live in, “The beautiful Carson Valley”.
